The Balanced Nurse- Time Management, Productivity, Work Life Balance, Self-Care, Habits, Routines, Nurses
❓❓Are you a nurse or woman in healthcare giving 100% at the bedside and nothing left for yourself? Struggling to find the time for self care and create healthier habits? Do you wish you had more energy on your days off so that you can do the things that fuel you– like getting a quick sweat sesh in, spending time with friends & family, or working towards your own goals? I am so excited you’re here, friend! This podcast will help you… ✅manage your time so that you can create healthier habits & routines ✅make time for self care ✅have more energy & ✅balance your work life so you can achieve your personal, health & fitness goals! Hey girl, it’s Ashley! I’m an ER nurse (almost 10 years) now teaching nursing students👩🏻🏫, enneagram 9, & coffee lover! For most of my nursing career, I tried balancing my work life, making time to take care of myself, and create healthy habits by just winging it with no success. 🚫 I got caught up in the work hustle and signed up for all the overtime. I would overeat, snack on all the breakroom goodies, and over do it on energy drinks. (can we say SVT?) 🚫 I found myself mentally and physically exhausted when I got home. On my days off, I was too tired to workout, meditate, plan out my week, or even spend time with family. 🚫 I would find myself mindlessly scrolling on instagram on my days off with the infamous nurse bun still intact from the prior day’s 13 hour shift. 🚫 I didn’t know how to balance the stresses of being a nurse and living a fulfilling life beyond the bedside. It wasn’t until I left my 7 year relationship and turned the big 3-0 that I finally took a hard look at my life. I realized I had been putting my career and others needs before my own. I was not prioritizing the things that mattered most in my life. I told myself that if I wanted more energy, better habits, prioritize self-care, and work on my personal goals, I needed to learn how to better manage my time and set up my nursing career around my life– not the other way around! It was time to put myself first. And it’s time for you to do the same, friend! Because we can’t give to others what we don’t have. (Say it louder for the people in the back!!) Girl, I’m excited to share with you all the tips and strategies that have helped me find the time and balance in my life to achieve my personal, health, and fitness goals! Things like… 👉🏼Time blocking 👉🏼Prioritizing, setting boundaries, & 👉🏼Productivity hacks, habits, goal-setting, WHILE 👉🏼Also taking a holistic approach to your self-care (burnout isn’t cool anymore) and other areas of your life! If you are ready to stop scheduling your life around your stressful nursing job, find a simple way to make time to go after your biggest goals & live your best life… Then this podcast is for you! Hey there! In this episode, I talk about a simple habit that can help you make the most of your days off as a nurse. I know firsthand how tough it can be to balance work and personal life, and this habit has been a game-changer for me.
By taking just 15 minutes every night before bed to write out my goals and tasks for the next day, I'm able to stay on track and make progress towards my goals.
I also talk about the importance of giving ourselves grace when unexpected things come up and how to adjust our expectations accordingly.
Tune in to learn more about this powerful habit and how it can help you lead a more productive and fulfilling life. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook for more tips and tricks on how to improve your work-life balance. Until next time friend!

Welcome to the latest episode of the Balanced Nurse podcast, where we discuss the 4 D's framework for achieving work-life balance. In this episode, I explore how this framework can turn clarity into action, allowing you to prioritize and focus on what's truly important.
I start by discussing the Perfect Week Formula book, which introduced the 4 D's model. We then explain how this framework can be applied to our daily lives, drawing on our experiences as nurses at the bedside or women in healthcare. I discuss how to prioritize tasks based on their importance and contribution to your desired outcome, and how to eliminate or delegate tasks that don't contribute to your goals!
I also emphasize the importance of considering your values, relationships, life, and career when prioritizing your tasks. By focusing on what truly matters, you can achieve a more balanced and fulfilling work-life.

In this episode, I share an exercise to help prioritize the things that truly matter in our lives. By brain dumping everything we do on a weekly basis, we can identify what needs to be prioritized first and ease the anxiety of an overwhelming to-do list. I also discuss strategies from "The Perfect Week Formula" book that have given me more guidance and structure to my week, including pushing my morning routine a little later and doing the hardest thing first for 90 minutes.
As nurses, it's important to have control of our time and schedule, and build our careers around our lives.
I introduce the Eisenhower Matrix, which helps to prioritize non-urgent but important work. I guide listeners through the steps of pulling out a sheet of paper and writing down every task, activity, obligation, hobby, meeting, and appointment, then separating them into quadrants labeled Urgent, Not Urgent, Important, and Not Important.
In the next episode, I will cover the 4 D's (Do, Decide, Delegate, Delete) to help bring clarity and propel listeners into action.

Hey friend! Welcome back to the podcast!
Today, we're going to talk about something that affects us all: negative self-talk. It's that little voice in our heads that tells us we're not good enough, that we're not doing enough, that we'll never be able to keep up. The good news is, there are ways to break this habit and start feeling better. I share 3 ways that have helped me break this habit!
It’s definitely not easy but its so worth it! Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health, and by breaking this habit, you'll be doing just that.
